We help our client (Defence) to find a
Strong Junior Software Engineer
who is excited to work with AI-powered features and have a readiness to work across multiple technologies as needed. This role suits someone who enjoys tackling backend business challenges while also being able to support frontend tasks when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Feature Development: Build, test, and deploy new features across our applications and modern backend/frontend stacks.
AI Solution Development: Contribute to the design and implementation of AI-driven features.
Maintenance & Optimization: Identify, debug, and resolve issues to ensure high performance and a seamless user experience.
Code Quality: Participate in and contribute to meaningful Code Reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices and “Clean Code” principles.
Collaboration: Work closely with product managers and other developers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Required Skills & Experience:
Experience: 1.5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, specifically within a production environment.
Backend: Any experience with the technologies listed below will be of interest to us (RoR, Node.js, Python).
Frontend Fundamentals: Good knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+) and experience with at least one modern frontend framework (React).
AI Literacy: You are well-accustomed to using AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, and documentation.
Software Design: Understanding of RESTful APIs, relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and version control (Git).
Problem Solving: A proactive mindset and the ability to break down complex tasks into manageable components.
Nice to have:
Strong foundational knowledge of Ruby and the Rails framework (MVC, ActiveRecord, etc.).
Typed Code: Familiarity with TypeScript would be a plus.
DevOps Basics: Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud services (AWS).
Testing: Experience with RSpec, Jest, or other testing frameworks.
