Senior WordPress Developer Remote | (Canada / USA only)

About the Role
Drupfan is looking for a Senior WordPress Developer to join our remote team on a long-term basis. You will own the architecture and delivery of complex WordPress builds, with occasional involvement in Drupal projects. The initial engagement can be part-time, with the option to move to full-time based on performance.
Responsibilities
🔹 Architect, develop, and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch;
🔹 Build and extend Gutenberg blocks using modern JavaScript;
🔹 Design and integrate REST APIs and third-party services;
🔹 Optimize site performance, caching, and database queries;
🔹 Ensure security best practices across all builds;
🔹 Conduct code reviews and enforce development standards;
🔹 Collaborate asynchronously with project managers and designers to deliver on time;
🔹 Support and improve existing codebases across WordPress and Drupal projects;
🔹 Contribute to technical decisions and propose solutions independently
Requirements
🔹Based in Canada or the USA (required)
🔹7+ years of professional WordPress development experience;
🔹 Deep expertise in custom theme and plugin development, WordPress hooks system, and WP REST API;
🔹 Strong PHP (OOP, PHP 8.x) and MySQL skills;
🔹 Proficient in modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SCSS;
🔹 Experience with Git and version control workflows (GitHub / GitLab);
🔹 Familiarity with Drupal (any version) as a secondary CMS;
🔹 Upper-Intermediate English (B2) — written and spoken;
Nice to Have
🔸 Drupal 8/9/10 module development or site building experience;
🔸 Experience with WooCommerce and payment gateway integrations;
🔸 Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation;
🔸 Knowledge of Docker or containerized development environments;
🔸 Experience with page builders (Elementor, WPBakery) and ACF;
🔸 SEO and Core Web Vitals awareness
